Technical Information

There are hundreds of notch locations due to cam duration, stroke, rod length and RPM. What we recommend is to clay the pistons, assemble the engine, turn it through several revolutions with the adjustment screw, back off 1 (or more) turn(s) the first few times and slowly work up to "0" lash if possible and disassemble. If the valve hits the piston before that time, do not force it but stop at that time. Let us know how much lash you still have, if any. We cut through the clay just below the imprint until the desired clearance is obtained. Minimum recommended clearance is 0.100" intake and 0.120" exhaust. I suggest that whenever possible, you check in this manner and leave the clay on the piston, protect with cardboard or a similar method and then we can cut the exact notches you need. You must specify valve size and depth.
