Technical Information

    Please be clear that only off-road race engines should require a seal to keep dirt out of the engine. I have never seen any street or play off-road engine that required this, except Type III. The Type III has the slinger grooves extended outside the end of the case and are exposed to contamination and should have a seal when subjected to off-road conditions in an exposed engine environment. After all, all other pulleys do not have the slinger grooves exposed and the pulley is rotating the dirt away from the center of the case. That, along with positive crank case pressure keeps dirt from entering into the hub of the pulley, except in super severe wet or mud conditions such as all out off-road or mud bog racing.
    For those that have an oil leak that is caused by the engine being damaged or has excessive blow-by from:
    1. Line bored out of line with the pulley hole.
    2. Crank bent or flexing (common to improperly made cranks) at the center. Crank ground off the center line on the mains in relationship to the pulley. (Extremely common with re-ground cranks).
    3. Case damaged from a pulley failure or from being ran on a bent or out of center crankshaft.
    4. Piston and cylinder blow-by (common in 92/94mm bores).
