How Does It Bolt In?

To meet our standards, it must be a product that any competent VW trans builder can install and the user can simply bolt into the car. It also must have mounts that provide rubber for street applications and solid mounts for proper securement for race applications. Naturally, we have used our already proven mounting systems for both. The race applications such as our famous GB 640 weld in mount and GB 641 yoke mount, which ties the trans, and frame horns together have been redesigned and manufactured for the new bus installation. GB 640B secures the trans from the front of the intermediate housing and is welded into the sedan chassis. Two types of solid yoke mounts for the end of the frame horns are available.
GB 641B is a yoke mount (like GB 641 for sedan gear box) that bolts to the transmission and the end of the frame horns, and GB 641C (like our new GB 641A for sedan gear box) has the added feature of box tubing for GB 7010 frame horn mounted wheelie bars. Thus eliminating the extra mount for them. It is extremely important that proper mounts are used for any race application and is the reason this area has been thoroughly addressed. For sedans, 1961-1967 bus, early Type III, Thing, and most off road vehicles.
Berg exclusive rubber mounted versions for street applications are: GB 643E for the front of the trans and a special new rubber mounted yoke mount, GB 641E for the frame horn end.
The IRS bus gear box is slightly longer than the sedan gear box and so must be set forward as far as possible.
A special guide plate is furnished to use at the front mount location that holds the trans in place until the GB 640B or GB 643E can be welded in place. The underside of the body must be slightly dimpled forward to clear the new Berg adapter.
The stock VW shift housing is not included and all of the mounts are additional. As always, proper instructions are included and any individual parts are available to support our customers that do not need the sedan parts or need any replacement parts. Originated by Gene Berg in 1984. Made in USA by Gene Berg Enterprises.
