Shifter Components

    All shifters require that the bushing in the tunnel be in perfect condition so that the shifter can properly operate. To replace the bushing requires that the sedan shift rod be removed out the front of the car, properly cleaned of rust, lubed, the bushing replaced and the rod re-installed. See the Bentley workshop manual pertaining to your vehicle for the complete procedure.

     VW 111-701-255B  Shift guide plate that is spot welded to the inside of the tunnel and holds the bushing. It is rare that this part is needed. However, if yours is damaged beyond re-use, the spot welds can be drilled out and this part can be installed. Further, the bushing will last far longer if lubed from time to time. When I went to VW training school, my instructor showed me a simple trick to do this without removing the shifter. You lift up the floor mat and drill a 3/8" hole on the right hand side of the tunnel about 3" from the back of the shifter at about 2 o'clock. When you have the shifter out, you can figure out exactly where. It works best if just behind the bushing. When you want to lube the bushing, lift up the floor mat, and squirt a couple of shots of oil onto the shift rod from a squirt can as you move the shifter from first to second. The oil goes onto the top of the shift rod and is pulled into the bushing when you move it back and forth.   $0.00   $17.21   $0.00
