3rd gear sleeve and thrust washer set, replaces concave washer and sleeve or snap ring and spring. Positively positions 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear so they do not move down the pinion shaft like they do with the concave washer or snap ring. Such movement breaks 2nd or 3rd gear by allowing backlash. It wears syncro rings rapidly as they play "catch up" to the gear or needlessly rounds the corners on the pro rings. It stops oscillation of gears on deceleration and reduces gear box noise when installed with 0.0005" preload and Loctited in place. Berg heat treated washer has proper clearance for 3 & 4 slider. Different sleeve lengths are available as stack height varies when end play is properly set. To replace the spring and washer on splined pinion shafts you Loctite the sleeve, washer, 4th gear, bearing race and snap ring and hold in the press until set-up. Most trans builders maintain a complete selection of sleeves due to the variance in stack heights and re-order when they use a size. Others always buy the longest one and machine it to fit.
