The 009 distributor is designed for up to 5500 RPM. It will run beyond this, however, will soon have point float. This radically changes the timing of the engine and can cause damage to the engine, the most common of which is rod bearing Babbitt being moved on the bearing surface. This is often referred to as alligatoring of the bearing as it looks like alligator skin. For reliable point operation above 5500 RPM use GB 622A point set. For race applications in the 7500 plus range some people take an old set of points and cut the spring off them and install it in conjunction with the spring on the set of points in the distributor to achieve higher reliable RPM. This usually works for street engines, however we have found nothing available for the VW to date that works as well or trouble free as the Stinger electronic ignition or the new Gene Berg Igniter Ignition for high horsepower and high RPM (6000 up) engines, and we have tested them all. Complete, with cap, points, rotor, ready to install and run. Uses replacement parts below. Comes with exclusive Berg instructions that are required for fast proper tuning of carburetion. If you need the o'ring seal order VWB111-905-261, distributor clamp VWA113-905-250. SW 2# Note: Many companies strip the points, cap, and rotor out of the 009 so they can sell it cheaper. Buyer be aware! WE DO NOT DO THIS. |
