Mandatory for all out drag racing. For years speed shifting has been a problem. The syncro rings were never designed for hard, fast shifts. When you force them harder against the taper on the gear than they were designed for, they will often bend or break. This grinds it into gear or even locks you out of gear. For drag race applications, the solution to this problem is to eliminate them all together. This still leaves the stock tiny VW teeth to absorb all of this instant driving shock load. They often break! The Liberty Pro Rings eliminate all of these problems. The small teeth are ground off 2nd gear and the PRO305 ten tooth ring is pressed on and spot welded in place of the stock driving teeth. Then it is honed back to proper size. The slider teeth are ground out to accommodate this new tooth configuration on the 2nd gear side only. This removal of two teeth on the 2nd gear side requires a 1/2 slider hub that has teeth all the way around from 1961-1963. These are not heat treated and will gall. They should not be used unless they are heat treated and hard chromed to provide years of service such as PRO350. Never use the late VW type that have large spaces between two driving teeth because they break. The PRO315 3rd and PRO316 4th are simply pressed on in place of the stock syncro hub. Then they are spot welded, honed, butt ground and the slider also modified to match with two teeth sets removed. Our PRO360 3rd and 4th slider hub is also required. Remove all of the syncro rings, clips, dogs, and small driving teeth from the gear box. An absolute must for all out drag race speed shifting. The faster you shift it the better. Proper clutch release is mandatory. Berg rapid travel shifters are highly recommended to provide extremely fast engagement of the PRO shift dogs. See GB 6770-6773 shifters that are designed to work with PRO shift parts. Also, see GB 801-TRANS technical article for proper trans building for high HP cars and technical information on flywheels and clutches in their respective sections. Made in the USA. Warning: Absolutely cannot be used for normal street type shifting. Clutch use is MANDATORY, this does not make the gearbox clutchless. |
