We do not line bore any cases. Our experience proves that once a case has been pounded out of alignment, it will never again hold it's shape to maintain proper bearing crush (preload), even if line bored properly. We hear constant complaints from people who experience oil pressure loss when their line bored engines warm up. Some complain of practically no oil pressure at idle. Overheating is a common additional complaint. Most line bored cases we kept track of never gave good service, even in stock use. Most suffer from low oil pressure in less than 10,000 miles, some in as little as 500 miles. Many suppliers tell you that you may need a larger oil pump to cure this problem. My question is, "Why was this bigger pump not needed to run the engine when the case was new from the factory and for the first 100,000 miles or more?" I say, "It's because the case is worn out and the oil pump is a bandage on your finger for a sore you have on your head." For this reason we do not use our special $4,000 line bore center to repair worn cases. We recommend using a new case. See index for page number on cases in this catalog. Maybe that's why VW does not offer such a service in factory rebuilt engines, only new cases. |
