Did you know our vast selection lets you choose the handle position (location) you desire (except bus)? We manufacture the product ourselves, providing complete coverage for every vehicle application. First let me explain what VW made and why. From 1956 through 1967 VW installed a 12" curved shifter. In 1968 the location on the tunnel was moved back and a 12" straight shifter was installed. For this reason we make both curved and straight shifters. We found that taller people wanted the handle moved more toward the back of the car as did many kit car owners so we offered the extra bend version. In some instances a person with long arms wanted the shifter closer to the front. Our shifter combinations provide the ability to have the handle location exactly where its perfect for you. No one else can make such a claim. Example: A 1956-1967 car using a GB 6710EB moves the handle back about 1" and with a GB 6720 straight shifter ahead 2". A 1968 with a GB 6710 moves the handle back 2" and the GB 6710EB about 3". As you can see you can have it your way. Note: Remember to take into account the 40% (or 60%) shorter throw will move the handle less than the stock shifter. Push button release for reverse. No more pushing the shifter down into the floor to find reverse. I have designed the shifter with 40 percent shorter travel than stock (others are 35%). Far more comfortable with less reaching to shift. Extremely strong and positive design brings you the smoothest, most positive shifting available of any shifter in the world for a VW. Comes with Gene Berg name embossed in the polished T handle (or we can custom engrave a handle for you, see information below) and triple chrome plated shaft. We even offer a handle with our name the other direction for "right hand drive" cars such as in Australia, England, Japan, etc. All sedan shifters feature our massive (exclusive) one piece 7/8" steel shaft that has a lifetime guaranteed against breakage. Accurately machined on computer numerical control machines to give precision fit and smooth accurate operation every time. Not one of our sedan shifters has ever broken a shaft, even under the most severe race conditions! Comes with a hardened shift gate that is hand fitted to the base and reverse lockout pin, assuring proper location and shifting positions. Each shifter fits and works properly before it leaves our plant. No other shifters provide this quality control. Anyone can install it in minutes with a 13mm wrench and our copyrighted, easy to understand instructions. No one's shifters are as strong or as positive as a Gene Berg shifter. |
